A universal laptop power supply is one of the most sensible ways to go about replacing your power cord if you find that you are in need of a new one. Cords are usually one of the main culprits of electrical problems for almost any kind of technology. Even if your laptop or notebook isn't currently in need of a new power supply, buying one or more of these can add a whole new level of savings and convenience to owning a laptop computer. If you take into consideration the fact that you are likely to upgrade your laptop within the next couple of years, as most of us do on a regular basis, universal power supplies are the way to go.

Another thing that makes universal power supplies so convenient is the fact that many of them come with car adapters so you can plug them into the cigarette lighter in your car. If the female component of your laptop power supply is broken, there are also power adapters that will plug directly into a USB port. How is that for convenience? Laptops are generally pretty expensive to repair. There are also ones that can switch between AC and DC and most will operate across a range of voltage as well. Double check the owners manual of your laptop before buying the power supply just to make sure you aren't buying an adapter that doesn't push enough wattage to power your computer.

Just like having collision insurance for your car, buying a spare power supply before something goes wrong is a very wise investment.  If you use your computer for work or school related projects, think about the inconvenience that would befall you if your power cord went on the fritz the day before a project was due.  Even if someone else gave you their computer to use, if your information wasn't stored on portable memory of some kind, you could possibly be in for some serious aggravation.

So even if your power supply isn't broke, buying a universal laptop power supply is an intelligent move to make. It will make your other cord last longer, add convenience to your life, and when it comes time to upgrade to a new laptop or notebook computer, you will have a spare for that one as well!
